At least 12 plastic bottles have been recycled and used in every one of Nike’s federation kits worn by the nine Nike teams in Russia this summer.

For both Nike’s Fast Fit Vaporknit kits (worn by Brasil, Croatia, England, Nigeria, Poland and Portugal) and Nike’s Match jerseys (worn by Australia, Saudi Arabia and South Korea), the creation process involves melting down 12 or 18 recycled plastic drinking bottles respectively for each kit and then creating a fine, lightweight yarn ready for match day.

The end result delivers the latest cutting-edge specs on the new jerseys, with a reduced impact on the environment.

It marks the latest innovation from the Swoosh brand to promote sustainability, with 75 percent of all Nike shoes and apparel now contain some recycled material in, and over 5 billion plastic bottles salvaged from landfills since 2012.
