Phil Foden looks ever-closer to cementing his spot in the Manchester City starting XI after an “incredible” 90 minute showing against Hoffenheim in the Champions League last night.
City boss Pep Guardiola doused Foden’s performance in praise last night, calling the 18-year-old “An outstanding young player.”

Continuing to shower the praise for a performance which saw him complete as many key passes as anyone else on the pitch, Pep said, “England has a diamond. He played like a man, a real man. Phil was incredible the way he played in the second half. It’s not just the quality he has with the ball. He looks skinny, looks like he’s not strong but he’s really strong.”
Foden – who recently extended his City contract until 2024 and firmly in Guardiola’s plans for the future – showcased his technique every time he got on the ball at The Etihad in last night’s game. He should have bagged one or two assists and had a well-executed volley tipped over the bar in one of his most complete City performances to date. Check out the best of the action below.
