Tammy Abraham believes the transfer ban in effect at Chelsea this season will finally give the club's young players a chance to make their mark.

The 21-year-old scored 25 goals on loan at Aston Villa in the Championship last season, marking himself out as one of the brightest young players in the country. It was Abraham's third consecutive season on loan but this year – with Chelsea banned from signing new players all season – he says it's "now or never" for him to break through in West London:

“It is now or never. There will never be a better time to play the youngsters. Of course the transfer ban is probably not what the club wanted but for us it is exciting. I am excited and I am sure the rest of the players are.

“There is a great chance for us young players so we must get our heads down in training and go for it at Chelsea...with a new manager coming in there is no better time to show what I am made of in pre-season. I am just buzzing at the thought of the new season.”

Tammy has made just two Premier League appearances for his boyhood club and leads a group of loanees returning to Chelsea for pre-season that also includes Mason Mount and Reece James, who killed it last season at Derby County and Wigan Athletic respectively.

Just how much faith the club puts in it's long list of talented young players will be for the club's next manager to decide, likely Frank Lampard.

For more opinion on Chelsea's movements this summer, find out why Callum Hudson-Odoi will be the biggest winner of Eden Hazard's exit.
