Chelsea are free to sign players in January after having their transfer ban their appeal  reduced by half by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

FIFA originally handed Chelsea a two-window transfer ban and rejected Chelsea's appeal against the punishment in April, but CAS have reduced the ban as they found Chelsea guilty of breaching two of its regulations on player transfers, specifically regarding bringing in U18s and 'third-party influence' but "for a significantly smaller number of players (about 1/3 of the violations found by FIFA)".

Chelsea's new generation of young talent from their own academy have been outperforming on expectations under new head coach Frank Lampard, who has given chances to the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James this season, with all four becoming key figures for the Blues this campaign.

They sit in fourth in the Premier League table after 15 games, but are now likely to boos their squad further in January. Wilfried Zaha is reportedly a high-profile target for Lampard and deals for Nathan Ake, Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele are also rumoured to go ahead.

One player that will continue to lead the line for Chelsea is Tammy Abraham, who believes he has broken the curse of the Blues' number nine shirt.
