Alex Scott has made history by becoming the first English-speaking female broadcaster to be featured as a commentator in EA Sports’ legendary FIFA franchise.

The former England international and Arsenal right-back retired back in 2018 and has since become recognised as one of the most influential sports broadcasters in the game with her work for Sky Sports and the BBC.

The Arsenal legend – who also notched up 140 caps for the Lionesses and represented Team GB at London 2012 – is no stranger to FIFA having previously featured as a player in-game in FIFA 16 and FIFA 17, but her re-emergence here marks an important moment for women working in football.

Speaking on her new game-changing role, Scott said:

“This is a big moment for FIFA, for football and women and girls across the world. Representation is crucial and the inclusion of an English-speaking female commentator of FIFA is game-changing. The impact it will have is simply stratospheric. It’s a big moment for me personally and professionally.

I know this is just the start of stronger female footballing representation from EA SPORTS and the football community as a whole.”

Scott will feature in the game as a pitch side reporter, announcing news from the sidelines and goals in other ‘Career Mode’ games, in a role that’s previously been held by names like Geoff Shreeves and Alan McInally.

EA Sports FIFA 22 drops worldwide on October 1.
