2K Sports are reportedly looking to take over the FIFA licence from EA SPORTS following the news that Electronic Arts are considering a alternative for its 28-year-old, multi-billion franchise.

The Canadian gaming giants have already trademarked the name 'EA Sports FC' and are reconsidering their partnership with FIFA – leaving the door open for another player to enter the fray and takeover the FIFA franchise.

A recent interview with 2K chief Strauss Zelnick seems to suggest that talks are either taking place or set to happen, with Zelnick saying: "That’s a big step forward for us… we haven’t been in that sport before. And erm, I think I’ll leave it at that today."

The Metro have now continued to fuel the flames on the approach by revealing that discussions have begun in relation to purchasing the FIFA licensing between 2k Games and FIFA.

Discussions regarding FIFA’s licensing are likely to intensify in the coming months, with the future of the franchise hanging firmly in the balance.
