Manchester United have agreed a 10-year extension to their partnership with adidas worth a minimum of £900m.
The new deal is thought to be the largest kit partnership in Premier League history – based on revenue per season – and will increase the club’s current focus on Manchester United Women’s team in an effort to continue both parties’ commitment to driving the women’s game forward.
Back in 2015/16, the Red Devils commenced an agreement with adidas that saw the two reunite for the first time in 23 years. Since then, the German sportswear giant has produced a range of home and way kits inspired by iconic United strips of years gone by, as well as some more adventurous, slightly more surprising Stretford End staples – think last season’s slime number, for example.
Along with standard kit releases, adidas and United have also linked up to produce a line of limited-edition drops, including this year’s collaboration with Manchester-based streetwear label Drama Call, that raises the bar for what clubs and brands can do together.
Who knows what the future holds for two of football’s biggest names, but one thing for certain is: expect more retro fits and even more experimentation in the coming years.
