Aston Villa and Manchester-based sportswear brand Castore are looking into short-term options for this weekend’s matches as the two parties prepare to end their partnership early.

Players recently expressed concerns over this season’s kit and its potential impact on their performance. The sweat-retention of the jerseys is a major concern, as the fabric clings to players’ bodies and causes them to feel weighed down over the course of the 90 minutes.

There are also concerns about the women’s team playing in the ‘wet-look’ kits as they open their WSL campaign at Villa Park on Sunday. The team played a pre-season friendly in their training kit due to the problems with sweat-retention.

Brentford reportedly had a similar problem with their away kit last season, causing them to play in their third kit as often as possible.

There are long-term efforts to fix the issue for the rest of the season, but as both teams are in action this weekend, it’s unclear how they’ll suit up with the jerseys out of commission.
