In the light of developments due to the spread of COVID-19 in Europe and related decisions made by different governments, UEFA have suspended Champions League and Europa League matches scheduled next week.

The UEFA Youth League will also be called off as part of the new measures attempting to prevent the spread of the virus, with the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League quarter-final draws scheduled for 20 March also postponed.

UEFA yesterday invited representatives of its 55 member associations, together with the boards of the European Club Association and the European Leagues and a representative of FIFPro, to a videoconference meeting on Tuesday 17 March to discuss European football’s response to the outbreak.

The news follows the LFP's decision to suspend all Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 until further notice, with the Premier League looking likely to follow suit in an announcement due later today.

Monday night’s Merseyside derby will almost certainly be postponed after Everton announced that their first-team squad are in self-isolation due to a first-team player contracting coronavirus, with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi also affected by the virus.

The Premier League are holding a meeting on Friday morning and are expected to announce that the season will be suspended until further notice.
