About the Role

Location: London/WFH

Terms: Full-time permanent contract

VERSUS is the platform championing the future of football and its rising influence on culture and society.
As Deputy Editor, you’ll take a leading role in producing agenda-setting news stories, features and original content that will engage our loyal and growing community on site and social platforms. You’ll work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to help manage day-to-day editorial operations, overseeing and supporting staff members with pitches – from ideation to execution – expanding our existing freelancer pool and commissioning process, as well as helping to develop our editorial strategy. You’ll take pride in producing excellent written copy and be motivated to tell best-in-class stories about the future of football culture, documenting the beautiful game’s impact on fields like music, style, sustainability, identity, activism, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Producing our very best agenda-setting written content for VERSUS site and social
  • Subbing the editorial team’s work 
  • Generating ideas for editorial content on a daily basis
  • Creating written stories across a range of formats (news, essays, interviews, etc.)
  • Assisting the editorial and commercial team with major brand projects
  • Building relationships with stakeholders in the football/culture space
  • Representing the VERSUS brand at press and/or industry events

Key skills and requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working within journalism/digital media
  • Outstanding command of written copy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to tight deadlines
  • Management experience
  • Self-starter attitude with drive to create great work
  • A deep-rooted love of football and the game’s impact on wider culture
  • The ability and desire to work within our London office
