Kerry Davis – the first Black woman to play for the Lionesses – has been honoured as a trailblazer by the Football Black List.

Davis made her England debut in 1982, scoring 44 goals on the international stage in 82 appearances for the Lionesses. Her 16-year England career has made her one of the national team’s most iconic figures. Not only was she England’s all-time top goalscorer until 2012, but she paved the way for the likes of Hope Powell, Mary Phillip, Lianne Sanderson and more to break into the England squad.

The Football Black List celebrates players, managers, referees and other Black people in football changing the game for good. Other honorees on this year’s List are Nikita Parris, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jess Carter.

Davis’ career achievements and greater impact on women’s football in England will be commemorated during the Football Black List awards ceremony on 21 March.
