Dave and Fredo have made history in securing their first-ever number one with new banger, "Funky Friday".
It's the first uncompromising UK rap track from this generation to achieve number one, and became the first chart-topper since "Animals" by Martin Garrix in November 2013 without a set-out chorus.
The track posted up huge numbers online to land the top spot. The track's cinematic visuals – co-directed by Dave and Nathan James Tettey – racked up 3 million views on YouTube, while on Spotify, the track sits comfortably on over 4 million streams – making it one of the most successful UK rap songs of all time. Austin Darbo previously stated he hasn’t seen Spotify UK numbers like this since Stormzy released #GSAP in 2017.

Replacing introspective bars for a straight-up banger with Fredo has proved to be a well-calculated and winning formula for Dave. With the track's hard-hitting production and wavey visuals also Santan's own creation, "Funky Friday" has not only illustrated his growth as an artist, but has now cemented his status as one of the biggest artists in the UK.
Several of Dave's peers such as Kenny Allstar, Hardy Caprio and Chuckie congratulated him on his new era-defining hit single on Twitter. Check out their response to the news below.
