Luton Town have announced they will be wearing the same home shirt for a second season running ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Hatters will keep their 23/24 home shirt – the club's first ever Premier League kit – to make football more affordable for fans, and to build a sustainable kit culture. The decision has been taken by Luton directly with the support of Umbro, the club's kit manufacturer.

Clubs usually release a new set of kits every summer, but Luton has said they will now only be changing their home shirt every other season – breaking the cycle of clubs having new home kits every single year.

The cost of supporting a football team is constantly squeezing the pockets of fans. From new kits, matchday costs and TV subscriptions, it has never been more expensive to follow the team you love – especially amid a cost of living crisis in the UK.

In 2021, Brentford became the first Premier League club to break the cycle of having a new kit every season. The 2010/11 season was the first time all 20 Premier League clubs released a new home shirt, with most kits lasting for two seasons at a time up until that point.

That Luton have taken initiative and extended the shelf life of a home kit that all supporters will cherish is an example of a club looking out for its community. The rest of the game would do well to follow Luton's lead.
