FIFA and Tiffany & Co. have joined forces to create what is possibly the craziest trophy football’s ever seen.
The FIFA Club World Cup trophy was designed by the governing body and crafted in collaboration with the world’s most iconic jewellers, taking almost an entire year to complete due to its intricate construction. In order to create the engraving Tiffany had to specially design a new five-axis laser.
The trophy consists of a central disc and three outer rings made of gold vermeil, creating an adaptable design that turns the trophy from a shield into an orbital shape. On both sides of the discs are engravings that portray football’s rich history, including the original Laws of the Game from 1863. The phrase “football unites the world” is also etched onto the trophy in 13 different languages and Braille.
The FIFA Club World Cup trophy will be held aloft for the first time at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey next summer.
