The Premier League will finally join Europe’s other top 5 leagues in having a winter break from the 2019/2020 season, according to a report from The Times.

The FA, Premier League and Football League (EFL) are understood to have reached an agreement for an annual two-week break in early February before the resumption of European fixtures.

The plan will mean the fifth round of the FA Cup will be played entirely midweek, and without replays. The break will also be staggered, per the report, “with five Premier League matches taking place on one weekend and five on another.”

This will result in all Premier League clubs enjoying a minimum 13 day break from match action.

It will also ensure that the England team will benefit with better-rested players ahead of Euro 2020, where England will be enjoying a predominant amount of home advantage, with the potential of 6 out of 7 games being played at Wembley in the lead up to the final.
