Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has joined a set of minority investors who have acquired partial ownership of MLS club Nashville SC.
The NBA champion is joined in the group by his brothers - Thanasis, Kostas and Alex Antetokounmpo - as well as the NHL's Filip Forsberg, adding to the Tennessee club’s star-studded roster. Previous additions to the ownership group since the club was founded in 2017 include, Hollywood's Reese Witherspoon and NFL running back Derrick Henry.
Though Antetokounmpo's made a name for himself on the basketball court, his connection to soccer started from a young age with his father having played professionally in Nigeria and Germany - it was also the first sport Antetokounmpo fell in love with in Greece.
Antetokounmpo’s investment in Nashville SC continues the trend of influential athletes becoming investors in various MLS teams. Fellow NBA players Kevin Durant and James Harden acquired a 5% stake in the Philadelphia Union and Houston Dynamo, respectively.
There is no denying that Antetokounmpo is a global superstar, and his affiliation with the relatively new team will help increase its popularity and prevalence both within the United States and abroad.
