Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of basketball’s biggest stars, but his latest sneaker release with Nike is inspired by the beautiful game – paying homage to the baller’s first true love.

The new edition of Antetokounmpo’s signature Nike Zoom Freak 5 trainer is what the streets have been asking for relentlessly, the return of Total 90s. The metallic silver and blue colourway, with that distinct quilted pattern on the upper, are an unmistakable nod to one of Nike’s most-loved boot silos. 

This drop is called 'Ode To Your First Love' for a reason, and after drawing inspiration from the basketball star’s youth, as well as his late father’s career as a professional football player, it’s no surprise that this retro classic laid the foundation for one of the best basketball x footy overlaps we’ve seen this year. 

If the T90 influence wasn’t already obvious, Antetokounmpo’s No.34 stitched inside a circle on the heel, should put any doubts to rest. 

The Nike Zoom Freak 5 is set to drop on the Nike website and select retailers on 25 April.
