Grammy Award-winning singer Tems has become a partner of MLS club San Diego FC, joining the star-studded ownership group.

The Nigerian artist is one of the newest additions to the California club, alongside actress and industry trailblazer Issa Rae, baseball player Manny Machado and Juan Mata. 

San Diego FC are the latest expansion franchise in America’s top-flight, kicking off their inaugural MLS season later this month against the reigning champions LA Galaxy. Despite being the new kids on the block, SDFC are already making waves in the game.

Tems and Rae joined the ownership group with Pave investments – the African private investment firm behind the formation of NBA Africa. 

Celebrity owners have become the standard in football these days, from Lebron James to Ed Sheeran, but nobody does it better than the Americans. MLS and NWSL ownership groups are almost exclusively filled with A-list actors, musicians and athletes, and San Diego FC is already following suit.

With an executive suite already stacked with Grammys and World Cups, silverware is in this club’s DNA. Here’s to more stars taking their business pitchside in the future.
