Chelsea has confirmed that Callum Hudson-Odoi was the victim of alleged racist abuse during the club's Europa League tie with Dynamo Kiev last week.
In a statement released on Monday afternoon, the club confirmed that one of its players – known to be the 18-year-old Hudson-Odoi – was subjected to monkey chants towards the end of the game.
During the game, Hudson-Odoi reported the fan abuse to club captain Cesar Azpilicueta, who then inform referee Tobias Stieler. Chelsea has since lodged the complaint with UEFA officials, who are now investigating the incident.

Hudson-Odoi is the second of England's U17 World Cup winning squad to report racist abuse, following Rhian Brewster's brave account of his experiences last year. It's one of sport's great shames that a new generation of BAME athletes is still subjected to this kind of abuse.
Unfortunately, this isn't a problem that can be explained away as only happening in other countries. The latest annual report from anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out revealed that cases of discrimination in football increased by 11% in 2017/18 – completing six years of successive increases.
This needs to end.
