As part of this year’s ‘Blue Creator Fund’, a collaboration between VERSUS and Chelsea - funded by the club's foundation - designer Ebele Ojechi has created the ‘For The Glory' collection.
Using a blend of classic and contemporary aesthetics, the collection redefines what it means to represent your club and country, with Ojechi creatively navigating the intersections between Chelsea and her Nigerian roots.
The sportswear-inspired capsule weaves iconic looks from seasons gone by with traditional Igbo fabrics and attire. From knitwear, skirts and sweatshirts to balaclavas and bomber jackets, the creative process involved upcycling, original printing and embroidery, with each piece offering a new way for fans to form the fabric of the club's community.
With Ojechi being SW-London raised, ‘For The Glory’ aimed to tell a story many, including herself, have lived. As part of London’s Nigerian diaspora, her collection connects London to Lagos, arriving as something Nigerian Blues around the world can wear with pride.
The Blues even tapped up some of their own to front the campaign, including the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Tyrique George, Sandy Baltimore and Oriane Jean-François, demonstrating that this isn’t just a collection for the fans, but the players too.
'For The Glory' featured at Chelsea's ‘This Game Is What We Make It’ exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London - celebrating the club's 120th anniversary.
The Blue Creator Fund was launched in 2023 by VERSUS and Chelsea FC to combat the lack of opportunities for people from underrepresented backgrounds, providing two young people a £15,000 grant to complete a creative project that explored the club and its community. For year two, the BCF went even bigger by awarding five aspiring creatives £20,000 to complete a project of their choice.
