adidas has officially launched its new GMR project with Jacquard by Google, an innovation which will merge physical football and digital gaming together with FIFA Ultimate Team.
adidas are giving players the power to play connected by improving their FIFA Mobile Ultimate Team overall rating (OVR) through real-world play using the Jacquard by Google Tag.
The small tag can be placed inside a football boot, which will record various performance stats from the wearer, including their kicks, shot power, distance and speed.
These statistics are all synced up with FIFA Mobile Ultimate Team, with the wearer having the ability to complete IRL football challenges and long-term milestones to help them earn FIFA rewards and improve their Ultimate Team.

One of the first challenges to be launched as part of GMR is dubbed “Master Finisher.” This task involves players taking 40 powerful shots from within the penalty box inside a one-week time frame. Successfully completing this challenge will earn coins and skill boosts that can be used within the game, while the hardest shot will be ranked on different leaderboards from other players.
The launch of adidas GMR signals a move from the Three Stripe brand to enter the “phygital” gaming space on their mission to become the number one sports brand influencing gaming culture.
The adidas x Jacquard by Google GMR is available now from the adidas web store from £29.95. FIFA Mobile is also available to download now from the App Store and Google Play Store, and can be connected directly to adidas GMR.
