Son Heung-Min is known for his positivity, and now, alongside adidas and the Kinetic Foundation, he’s helping spread that mindset to the next generation.
Pulling up pitchside at the Harris Academy, the Spurs captain surprised a group of youngsters in the capital to combat negativity, after a recent study found that 4 in 5 athletes experience negative pressure from the sidelines.
Whether from coaches, parents, supporters, or fellow teammates, adidas and the Kinetic Foundation are tackling the ‘Sideline Effect’ with their list of ‘Sideline Essentials,' aiming to encourage up to 20 million more athletes to play sport regularly.
Working alongside various sports psychologists and figureheads, these common behaviours are alleviating the pressure pushing many away from what they love. From understanding that less is more to celebrating the effort of an individual, the Three Stripes' list of five is enriching the minds of youngsters and their outlook on sport — helping them believe ‘You Got This'.
During the surprise session, Son demonstrated the benefits of these behaviours, reinforcing the role of positivity in unlocking an athlete's true potential. He joins a star-studded list of adidas athletes — including Lamine Yamal, Aitana Bonmatí, and Anthony Edwards — hoping to flip the script on sideline support and help push youngsters towards a path of positivity.
