Rapper and Louisville native Jack Harlow has joined the ownership group of NWSL club Racing Louisville and the USL’s Louisville City, announcing the news at LouCity’s match against Charleston.
Harlow was spotted at Racing Louisville’s match against San Diego Wave, joining university students and local fans for the club’s College Night back in April. What was considered a rare sighting a few months ago is sure to be a regular occurrence, with the rapper already touching down first class at Lynn Family Stadium to announce his new ‘owner’ status in person.
Celebrity ownership is fairly novel in the world of football, with global stars like Michael B. Jordan and Ed Sheeran purchasing stakes in English clubs. In the NWSL, however, big names are nothing new.
Harlow joins the likes of Serena Williams, Jennifer Garner, Natalie Portman, Naomi Osaka, Jessica Chastain and more A-listers, holding shares in one of the top-flights biggest clubs.
As women’s football continues to grow in popularity, especially stateside, more high rollers are looking to join in on the fun. With more investment and the attention that Harlow’s hometown hero status brings, one of the sport’s fastest growing leagues is only going to skyrocket. Here’s to more stars following suit.
