The NWSL’s Denver, Colorado-based expansion team is set to join the league in 2026, but they already have plans in place for their own women’s-specific football stadium.

The new club just announced the 14,500-capacity ground as part of the larger ‘Santa Fe Yards’ project in the city, creating a recreational and entertainment district in Downtown Denver. The stadium will sit at the heart of the new district, with a unique three-stand design drawing neutrals and potential fans into the fold from the open end.

As the first women’s professional sports team to grace the city since 1998, the team has already received overwhelming support from locals. They became the fastest NWSL expansion side to reach 5,000 season ticket deposits back in February, breaking the record in only three days. With plans already in motion to build a stadium made just for them, Denver might be one of the biggest expansion teams the league has ever seen.

Last year, Kansas City Current opened the world’s first stadium built specifically for a women’s sports team, creating a blueprint for others to follow. CPKC stadium’s first year in business was a massive success, with the Current becoming the first NWSL club to sell out every single match of the season. When the stadium at Santa Fe Yards opens in 2028, Denver will be looking to repeat history.

NWSL average attendances continue to rise each season, with the Kansas City model epitomising the saying ‘build it and they will come.’ The game is only getting bigger, so why not build bigger?

With another women’s-specific stadium coming to the States, the NWSL is setting the tone for women’s football worldwide.
