England have honoured Fara Williams with a pitch named after her at St. George’s Park, paying tribute to the former Lionesses' record-breaking international career.
The newly refurbished, state-of-the-art pitch – now named the Fara Williams Pitch – is home to England Women’s U23 team, as well as being used by other youth development teams too. Williams is the Lionesses’ most-capped player, with 172 appearances and 40 goals for England over an 18-year career. She played a pivotal role in their runners-up finish at Euro 2009, as well as securing their then-historic bronze World Cup medal in 2015.
Williams has laid down the foundation for the current Lionesses' squad, allowing them to follow in the footsteps of those that came before them. So it’s only right her contributions to the sport are recognised and immortalised at St. George’s Park.
As one of English football’s biggest names, the newly dedicated pitch ensures that Williams' legacy continues to inspire the next generation of Lionesses for years to come.
