Angel City FC has become the most valuable women’s sports team in the world after being acquired by Disney CEO Bob Iger and Willow Bay.

The historic deal values the NWSL club at $250 million, breaking San Diego Wave’s previous league record of $120 million after the club was sold last year. Iger and Bay have invested an additional $50 million to further support the club’s growth.

Despite only being in the middle of their third NWSL season, Angel City is already one of the most financially successful clubs in the world.

In 2023, the Los Angeles club generated the most revenue of any women’s sports team in the world despite only being founded in 2020. With a dedicated fanbase and the most season ticket holders in the league, this team has witnessed an astronomical rise in the last four years.

Women’s sport around the world is experiencing a surge in support and investment, with more clubs and franchises sharing valuation figures never before seen in women’s professional sports. Chelsea recently valued their women’s team at £150 million, and as more investors buy stakes in clubs, this new record set by Angel City is likely to be surpassed as quickly as it was broken.
