Brentford has announced train discounts for fans travelling to away matches to promote a sustainable matchday alternative to driving.

The club has partnered with Trainline’s ‘I Came by Train’ initiative to provide a 20% ticketing discount for travelling fans attending select away matches.

This partnership makes Brentford the first Premier League club to work with an external company to actively encourage sustainable match travel.

The Bees have made it their duty to lessen the carbon footprint of their players, staff and fans. Earlier this month, they launched a sustainability advisory group made up of experts to assist the club in working towards more eco-friendly operations. The club also opened a community garden at the stadium with 25 different plant species and made headlines when they chose to reuse the home shirt in back-to-back seasons.

Football is far from being a carbon-neutral sport, and the growing issue of emissions from clubs and fans alike is one that needs addressing. However, with clubs like Brentford making efforts to do their part in reversing the sport’s negative environmental impact, the beautiful game is one step closer to changing that narrative.

Further information and eligible matches are listed on the Brentford website.
