adidas are making waves by announcing a raft of new initiatives that will see the Three Stripes end plastic waste by the end of the decade.
Plastic waste is one of the biggest problems facing the environment right now – for every person on the planet, there is one ton of plastic and nearly 80 percent has become plastic waste wreaking havoc on the oceans around the world. At the start of a new decade, adidas is challenging itself to make major changes to help fix this global problem.
Headlining the initiative is a promise for 100% of all plastic used in adidas products to be recycled – not new plastic – by 2024. This will be aided by the introduction of two new technologies, PRIMEBLUE and PRIMEGREEN performance fabrics created from recycled polyester.
It means we could see even more football kits from the adidas x Parley for the Oceans collaboration, which sees products created from recycled plastic collected from the world's oceans. This season, the collab resulted in a series of wavey pre-match jerseys for the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid and Juventus.
The brand has also promised to reduce its carbon footprint by 30% by 2030, and move to sustainable jerseys across US sports partners including MLS and NHL.
In other news from adidas, check out the new Predator Mutator boot which will be worn by the likes of Paul Pogba and Fabinho.
