Images via Umbro Umbro’s ‘Make New’ upcycling campaign has come to an end, with winner EGOR claiming the ultimate prize for a full-leather outfit inspired by racing silhouettes and motorbikes. The ‘Make New’ campaign focused on sustainability and tackling textile waste, with Umbro calling upon designers and artists to breathe new life into old football kits, boots, and footballs. Nouveau Nova launched the campaign, transforming a 21/22 EA Guingamp goalkeeper jersey into a knitted gown, followed by home decor specialists Tuesday Pickup and upcycling connoisseurs Unwanted FC. The brand urged the community to get involved by sharing their own upcycled projects for a chance to create a unique project with Umbro products. Four creators were shortlisted – EGOR, Slow Projects, Marqo Fletcher and Martha Mcloughlin – and their designs were showcased on Umbro’s social media channels.A public vote declared EGOR the winner for a leather racing jacket and matching, baggy trousers that would have been perfect for Rosalía’s Motomami tour. Using Speciali boots and lifestyle apparel, the jacket features hand-stitched patches with lace-up detailing on the sleeves. The patchwork design of trousers was constructed with pieces from boots, balls, and garments.EGOR will join Umbro’s global influencer team, Diamond FC, receiving regular product drops and upcycling challenges for an entire year. Look out for more custom pieces in the future.Take a closer look at the shortlisted designs below.
