In January, Manchester City submitted plans to build a new training facility specifically for their women’s team, and construction for the £10 million facility is officially underway after receiving council approval.
The state-of-the-art facility is set to open in 2025, purpose-built to enhance player development for the women’s side in a similar manner to the men’s facilities. The building will house a hydrotherapy area, a high-performance gym and an analytics space, providing the team with a bespoke, industry-leading environment for them to train and recover.
The new building is located just a few metres away from Man City Women’s Joie Stadium – the first purpose-built stadium in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
More women’s teams in the WSL and other leagues have made efforts to provide better facilities for their players. Manchester United recently opened a multi-million pound training facility at Carrington for the women’s side. Across the pond, Kansas City Current opened the world’s first purpose-built women’s football stadium in front of a sold-out crowd earlier this year.
With the new facility closely following the opening of the stadium, Manchester City’s continued investment and dedication to growing their women’s team and providing them with the best equipment and support needed to succeed is evident.
As the side celebrates the 10-year anniversary of their professional relaunch, here’s to more infrastructural progress in the women’s game – in Manchester and beyond.
