Dutch brands Filling Pieces and KLABU have linked up for the second year in a row to celebrate Keti Koti, creating a special-edition football kit to mark the occasion.
Keti Koti – meaning ‘broken chains’ in Sranantongo – celebrates the abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Dutch Antilles in 1863, as well as the people who fought for abolition and the rich cultures that have flourished since.
The Filling Pieces x KLABU jersey arrives in white with grey graphics darted across the shirt in KLABU’s signature butterfly print, whilst the Surinamese colours of red and green decorate the collar and sleeve cuffs. Both the Dutch and Surinamese flags feature on the Filling Pieces logo, highlighting the large diaspora present in the Netherlands. Where a shirt sponsor would typically sit, ‘United Spirit’ is written across the front with a large jaguar graphic featured on the back.
Last year’s Keti Koti collaboration manifested itself in a jersey as well as a long-lasting project. The two brands committed to building a Filling Pieces x KLABU clubhouse in Suriname to host workshops focusing on sport, music, and design. KLABU has already previously built several clubhouses in Brazil, Kenya, and Bangladesh, but hope to add Suriname to that list in 2025. Proceeds from the shirt will go towards funding this project as well as helping to facilitate more art and design workshops for children in Suriname.
The Keti Koti jersey is available to purchase on both the KLABU and Filling Pieces websites.
