Coperni teased an upcoming collaboration with PUMA during Paris Fashion Week, with a futuristic football boot and dress shoe hybrid strutting down the luxury brand’s SS24 runway in multiple colours.
Coperni is only the second luxury fashion brand to collaborate on a signature shoe with PUMA, and the currently unnamed trainers have the French label’s fingerprints all over them.
Arriving in three monochromatic colourways – black, white and yellow – the shoes feature a sporty upper similar to PUMA’s Future boot range, complete with the distinct zigzag design. Rather than traditional studs or even the multiple miniature studs of astros, the shoes are supported by large, flat, triangular nubs.
The biggest difference between traditional boots and the footwear inspired by them is at the front of the shoe. The toe box is square and angular – a Coperni footwear staple – so perhaps not the best choice to lace up in for 5-a-side.
Co-founders Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant have drawn inspiration from futuristic designs, brutalist architecture and technology, so the 22nd century silhouette of the shoe hardly comes as a surprise.
With blokecore going strong for another year, and a shift in the trend from kits and tracksuits to footwear, this collab couldn’t have come at a better time.
The collection does not have a set release date, but as the shoes accompanied next season’s designs in Paris, they will likely arrive in the first few months of 2024.
To be the first to hear about the shoes when they drop, there’s a link to sign up on the Coperni website.
