With just over 24 hours to go until this years award ceremony in Leeds, MOBO have announced British actor/DJ Idris Elba as this year's recipient of the 'Paving the Way' award.

First created in 2015, the ‘Paving The Way’ award was initiated by MOBO to "celebrate and honour trailblazers who are creating a path of excellence for future generations of talent to follow," spanning across music, entertainment, culture and sports.

Idris Elba took to Twitter this morning to share his gratitude, in light of the journey he's taken, across his career.

As someone who once faced homelessness, I know how important it is to have access to something better. I’m blessed to have this chance to lay a paving stone in a place that I hold so dear and leave a legacy for future generations. Thank you MOBO for giving me that opportunity pic.twitter.com/bSU9PE8QKp
