The Black Collective of Media in Sport (BCOMS) have partnered up with Apple to launch its new Masterclass Accelerator Programme.
The programme, which starts next month, is focused on diversifying leadership within sports media by supporting the development of content creators from underrepresented backgrounds. According to research by the National Council for Training in Journalism (NCTJ) Report in May 2023, 87% of journalists come from white ethnic groups. Just 6% of editors are ethnically diverse, with only 7% of editors aged below 30.
The aim of this partnership is to reduce barriers for marginalised talent and accelerate careers in the content creation and journalism space through bespoke tutorials and workshops delivered by industry leaders including a masterclass delivered by Apple.
Participants will be equipped with the skills, network exposure and experiences to propel them into senior roles in the media industry. The initiative will also connect participants with potential opportunities at Apple, as they work with the company’s recruitment team.
Alongside the Masterclass Accelerator Programme, BCOMS’ partnership with Apple includes scholarship funding for industry-specific qualifications to support professional development.

The deadline is 11th March 2024 at 12pm.
