Aston Villa centre-back Tyrone Mings is reportedly set to land a massive role on the board of directors for Euro 2028.
The 32-year-old will combine playing Premier League football with helping to organise the tournament, which will take place in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
In this role, Mings is set to become the most high-profile baller to hold this position while still playing. With 18 senior caps under his belt, The FA believe he can bring the perspective of an international pro at board level.
Mings has also founded a football academy in Birmingham and is director of interior-design company KTM. His work saw him named in Forbes’ ‘30 Under 30’ list to recognise “young visionaries” in 2020.
Not only is it rare for an elite baller to dive into this level of football administration, it is even rarer to see Black representation in these senior roles. By taking on this position, Mings is following in the footsteps of Deji Davies and Les Ferdinand who have paved the way for Black directorship in English football.
Here’s hoping more players see this as a viable option for them, either during or after their careers.
