PUMA’s V-S1 release is steeped in Y2K football DNA, taking inspiration from the brand’s V1 football boots from the same period, known for its radical design and use of innovative materials like carbon fiber.
The new V-S1’s pitch-inspired look borrows and interprets visual elements from both the V1.06, and V1.08. The latter model was rocked by a peak Samuel Eto’o as he bagged against Man United to lift the UCL trophy with Barça and was fittingly donned by Nicolas Anelka after securing the Premier League Golden Boot in 08/09.
The silo also made waves during AFCON 2008 as Eto’o claimed top scorer in the red and black colourway, with 20 of the 24 teams competing in the tournament choosing V1.08s as their preferred footwear, including Angola’s Manucho.
The silhouette is defined by its low-profile shape, asymmetrical lacing, and unmistakable performance accents like its structural heel cage. PUMA’s ‘Formstrip’ and leaping cat logo are seamlessly integrated into the streamlined design, as a silver colour palette forms the basis of the shoe’s upper, further evoking '00s aesthetics.
Material hits on the upper create a range of textures, from cracked leather to micro dots and mesh. The V-S1 breaks out into two inaugural colorways, including the vivid “Poised Pink” and metallic “Shadow Gray.” Both perfect options for those wanting to brighten up their spring footwear rotation or whack it top bins like prime Gervinho in '08.
The PUMA V-S1 is available starting April 19 from selected retailers and PUMA.com.
