Nike are taking one of their most iconic sneakers to the stadium, unveiling an Air Max 95-inspired Mercurial.
For the silo’s 30th anniversary, the Swoosh have turned back the clock. This week saw a reissue of the OG ‘Neon’ model, with the same colourway being the source of inspiration for a Mercurial Superfly.
The boots transform Sergio Lozano’s timeless design, producing a pitch-perfect blend of both worlds. The upper takes on the sneaker's trademark layered look, descending into darker hues from a white mesh to a charcoal footbed.
Like the OG, the monochrome tones are contrasted with bold neon green accents, arriving on the studs, soleplate and eyestays. Other details include an 'Air Zoom' tongue tag that reworks the classic Air Max logo.
Another nod to the sneakers sees the boots come in a like-for-like shoebox from the 1995 release. This isn't the first time Nike have taken this silhouette from the street to the stadium, having released a Neon-inspired Hypervenom for Air Max Day in 2017.
And while they've kept things quiet for now, Kylian Mbappé was spotted wearing a pair during a training session yesterday. With the Mercurial also worn by ballers like Lauren James and Vinícius Jr, we could see more players follow in the footsteps of the French forward soon.
The Nike Air Max 95 Mercurial will be available from April 12th via Nike, as well as Pro:Direct Soccer, and select retailers.
