VERSUS and UEFA came together for one night only in Manchester to celebrate the launch of ‘Queenzine’, a new limited-edition print fanzine, documenting women’s football culture in the cities competing in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The latest issue features Manchester City star Mary Fowler on the cover, as her team go toe-to-toe with Chelsea in the UWCL quarter-finals.
Taking a culture-first approach to women’s football storytelling, the cover shoot took place in a Manchester ceramics studio and explored Mary’s professional career as well as her creative passions including pottery, photography and art. It also examines the community impact of grass roots clubs through an exclusive interview with Manchester Laces.
With the new issue spotlighting Manchester’s unique culture, it was only right we launched it in style at The New Cross in the Northern Quarter with a night full of conversation, music, food + drink and unmatched vibes.
Some of the city’s most influential faces and voices in football culture rolled through, in addition to a new generation of women’s football fans who believe the game can be a cultural force like never before. VERSUS curated a panel hosted by our editor-in-chief Amie Cripps, who discussed the way the sport is changing off-pitch alongside Queenzine contributor Coco Mell, Flo Lloyd-Hughes and Fadumo Olow.
One of Manneh’s finest, Kennedy Taylor kept the vibes high with DJ sets all night long, while attendees enjoyed bespoke installations inspired by Manchester and the latest edition of Queenzine.
Thanks to the community for coming through in big numbers once again. This is women’s football culture as you’ve never seen it before.
Queenzine is available now via the UWCL app and online.
