Ethan Ampadu has become the latest young British player to make the move to the Bundesliga after securing a season-long move to Red Bull Leipzig from Chelsea for the 2019/20 season.

Ampadu is one of the most highly-rated players at Stamford Bridge, and the versatile young baller featured in three Europa League games for The Blues last season. Ampadu will develop with more game time with Leipzig in the Bundesliga and Champions League this coming campaign after the German outfit finished third in the German top-flight last season behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking about the move, new Head Coach Frank Lampard said "I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year so I’m a big fan, but with the minutes he played last year, in the interest of Ethan and of Chelsea, the idea he can play a lot of games somewhere could be good for him.

"I really wanted to work with Ethan this year. That’s a slight disappointment, but it’s to benefit of him. In midfield and defence we have a lot of quality, so each player is a case by case."

Ampadu will don the number 26 next season and be coached by new Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann, who is renowned for giving young ballers a chance to shine at the top level. Speaking about the move, the Welshman said, "I've been following and seeing how fantastic young players have developed here over the last few years and what potential there is in this club. It's the perfect step for me."

In other young player news, Tottenham are close to signing Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon for £20 million.
