Chelsea have announced the signing of Australia international star Sam Kerr in a massive move for the Women's Super League side.

The 26-year-old forward is one of the most prolific goal scorers in world football after consistently scoring for club and country throughout her career. Kerr won the National Women's Soccer League 'MVP' award last season after bagging 19 goals in 23 matches for Chicago Red Stars, and scored five goals in this summer's Women's World Cup.

Kerr has now signed a two-and-a-half year deal in west London, and the Ballon D'or nominee will link up with her new teammates once the transfer window opens at the end of 2019. Speaking about the move, Kerr said:

"The WSL is the best league in Europe. I want team success and I don’t want it to come easy. I feel Chelsea have been building something special over the years and I want to be a part of that – I want to lift some trophies."

Kerr's transfer is a huge coup for Chelsea and makes a big statement about the trajectory of the women's game in Britain right now. As one of the most talented ballers of her generation, Kerr's arrival will help to bring more eyeballs to the WSL than ever before and we can expect other big names to follow.

In related women's football news, Kerr’s Australian Women’s football team are now earning the same pay as the male side in a new landmark deal.
