Prada has announced an official partnership with the China Women’s National Team, just in time for the Women’s World Cup.
The Italian luxury fashion house will provide the team with outfits for formal events and travel, with the team’s official uniform featuring a black blazer with matching trousers, a crisp, white shirt, and the highly-coveted Prada loafers.
The Steel Roses debuted the new look as they arrived in Australia for the World Cup. The partnership is set to continue after this summer’s tournament, with China preparing for the 2023 Asian Games this September and the Olympics next year.
This isn’t Prada’s first time venturing into the world of sport, particularly in China. The Italian fashion house found its latest brand ambassador in popular basketball player Shuyu Yang, and last year the brand launched a Douyin – think Chinese TikTok – campaign featuring Chinese Olympic athletes.
Prada’s new partnership comes shortly after Martine Rose’s latest collaboration with Nike, launching a campaign featuring prominent women footballers of the past and present. As women’s football becomes more popular and players are transformed into public figures, the fashion industry has finally taken note.
