Teenager Chloe Ricketts has signed a three-year contract with NWSL side Washington Spirit after training with the 2021 Championship winners during preseason.

At 15 years and 283 days old, she became the youngest player to sign a contract in NWSL history, only three days younger than Olivia Moultrie was when she signed with the Portland Thorns back in 2021.

After impressing head coach Mark Parsons during a training camp in January, the youngster will become a key player in the Washington D.C club’s future plans.

In a club news release, Parsons said: “this season, we remain very focused on building a roster that can help us succeed now while also investing in the future.

"We look forward to Chloe developing and becoming an important player and teammate for our team.”

Only a sophomore in high school, Ricketts will continue her education online whilst training with the first team, describing joining the club as a "dream come true", adding: "I'm looking forward to continuing my development as a player and individual with the great resources here in the District."

The midfielder is an exciting young talent, and represents the next generation of ballers coming up the ranks at both club and international level.
