Women’s teams will be included in Football Manager for the first time in 20 years since the video game’s inception, and it’s about time.
In a game development blog post written by Miles Jacobson, Studio Director at Sports Interactive, it was revealed that women’s football would finally be featured in the popular video game with the launch of FM25.
This comes after the studio mentioned plans to include women’s teams back in 2021 – though legal issues and efforts to improve graphics throughout the game have delayed the process.
Jacobson said: “The women’s game deserves to be the best it possibly can be when it is released – and the new graphics engine will help deliver that.” With the Studio Director also mentioning that the studio has tapped “key figures in women’s football” to assist them in creating the most authentic in-game experience possible.
As women’s football continues to grow in popularity the gaming industry has taken note. FIFA included women’s international teams for the first time in 2015, and this year players can simulate the Women’s World Cup with a new game update ahead of this summer’s tournament.
