PUMA has announced Rihanna’s return to the brand as creative director behind the FENTY x PUMA range, and the newest drop is heavily inspired by one of football’s most iconic boots.

Rihanna’s work with PUMA has resulted in some of the most memorable streetwear moments of the last decade – who could forget the chokehold FENTY x PUMA creepers had on fashionable society in 2015?

After a five year hiatus, the global superstar’s return to the footwear circuit proves she’s tapped into the zeitgeist, with the FENTY x PUMA Avanti blending the King football boot with the brand’s Easy Rider running shoe.

The Avanti mimics the upper of the classic King, right down to the recognisable tongue flap. The first drop arrives in two colourways, with the first being a direct replica of the football boot.

It features a black, leather upper with white details. Instead of the usual brand name on the flap, ‘FENTY’ is embossed in gold. The gum sole adds a retro look to the trainers. Rihanna might have another timeless classic on her hands.

The second colourway is completely chrome, with the gum sole adding the only bit of contrast to the silver trainers. While these are the brand’s first introductions to the new franchise, PUMA has teased new colours and designs in the near future.

The trainers are priced at £140 for the classic black colourway, and £150 for the chrome variation. They will be available to purchase on the PUMA website on 15 September at 3pm BST.
