PUMA has officially launched the new Home and Away kits for next year’s African Cup of Nations and they do not disappoint.
The collections serve as a celebration of each nation’s rich heritage and culture whilst balancing functionality and fashion.
PUMA has created bespoke designs for Morocco, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Ghana, with each kit featuring distinctive patterns and colours reflective of their respective nations.
The sportswear brand linked up with some of football-fashion’s best in-class designers for next year’s AFCON kits, including Daily Paper’s Abderrahmane Trabsini and Jefferson Osei.
Tabsini was born and raised in Amsterdam, where he co-founded Daily Paper with Osei, but has made sure to stitch his Moroccan heritage into his nation’s kit for this release.
Inspired by Moroccan and Berber craftsmanship, traditional zellige tile patterns are featured on the home kit – the intricate geometric designs symbolise unity, eternity and artisanship. Whilst the away kit incorporates symbols often seen on Moroccan rugs representing protection, fertility and harmony.
Ghanaian native, Osei, set out to unite Ghanaian tribes through his kit design. Working with renowned Ghanaian painter Daniel Alum Jasper, he created a star print for the home kit on a white base that as players perspire, the shape becomes more pronounced. The yellow away kit pays homage to Ghana’s ‘Gold Coast’ and represents the colours often found in Ghanaian culture, with the adinkra symbols located on on the jersey’s sleeves.
PUMA’s AFCON kits are available to purchase online and selected retailers now.
