The KDB Cup is widely regarded as one of the best youth football tournaments in the world, and in its sixth year, it’s going global.
For the first time, the Cup will feature two non-European sides: South African team Mamelodi Sundowns and Brazilian powerhouse Palmeiras. When asked about his decision to include teams outside of his home continent De Bruyne said: “When I played in youth tournaments, I never played teams from outside of Europe. So to get a team from Brazil is a little bit crazy. I’m excited to watch them play. You have to play the best to be the best.”
This year’s tournament will see both sides compete against U15 squads from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Barcelona, PSG, Ajax, and Real Madrid. In its six years, the competition has showcased the talent of some of the continent’s brightest young stars, with past KDB Cup participants such as Jamal Musiala, Eric Garcia, and Spanish wonderkid Gavi. This year will likely be no different.
Entering its second year of partnership with sports camera company Veo, the tournament will be available to stream via the Veo Live App. Last year, over 50,000 people from 104 countries tuned in to watch the next generation of football players, providing these youth stars with an incredible platform to showcase their skills.
This year’s KDB Cup will kick off on 10 June in De Bruyne’s hometown of Drongen.
