VERSUS joined forces with KFC last week to launch ‘The Kentucky Club’ - an inclusive members club providing young people with the skills, connections and opportunities needed to secure their first job. Research conducted by KFC found that 65 percent of 16-25 year olds don't feel there’s enough employment support available to them, with 61 percent expressing the difficulty associated with getting a job without having an existing ‘connection’ - something the fast food chain are hoping to change with their latest initiative. The launch of 'The Kentucky Club' is just the latest move from KFC to open more doors for young people. Last year, the fast food chain introduced the Hatch programme with UK Youth, helping thousands of young people across the UK who have faced barriers to employment get their first job. Hatch graduates will be automatically enrolled into 'The Kentucky Club', providing them with continued access to career development, job opportunities and community support. The one-day event took place in Birmingham - statistically the youngest city in Europe - with dozens of young people aged between 16-25 attending employability sessions and inspirational panel discussions hosted by YouTubers Nella Rose, Luke Vernon and the 3ShotsOfTequila podcast crew. Our very own Mayowa Quadri sat down with Aston Villa and England striker Ollie Watkins to talk about the baller’s journey from National League to international football, obstacles he’s had to overcome on his journey to the top plus the importance of resilience when setting and achieving goals. Those in attendance could try their hand at ‘The Kentucky Club’ lucky spin wheel where prizes ranged from KFC vouchers, stickers and exclusive event merchandise - attendees also gained access to 1-2-1 career mentoring sessions with KFC leadership as well as work experience opportunities.KFC made sure to provide guests with free finger lickin’ chicken, and kept the vibes in check courtesy of a live set from KISSTORY DJ Tinea Taylor plus a special performance from Mercury Award nominated rapper Ghetts.
