FC Bayern Munich Frauen will play at the Allianz Arena for the first time in history when they take on PSG next month in the quarter-finals of the UWCL.
Club CEO and Bayern Munich legend Oliver Khan labelled the game a "milestone" for women’s football in Germany. “We are very happy about this milestone in the more than 50-year history of our FC Bayern women’s football department.” Stated the former European Champion and World Cup runner-up.
“Jens Scheuer’s team gets the stage it deserves for the Champions League quarter-finals against Paris St-Germain in our Allianz Arena. I hope that the framework conditions allow for a football festival where many Bayern fans will support our women” explained Khan. Due to take place on March 22nd, the match is almost five years to the date since Bayern hosted PSG in a UWCL quarter-final first leg. A match that took place in front of a record-breaking crowd of 7,300 spectators at the time, with Der FCB beating the French side 1-0 at the Grünwalder Stadion.
Last month, FC Barcelona Femení sold out Camp Nou in two days for the UWCL’s first ever Women’s El Clásico. The Champions League winners are set to break world record attendance figures if all 85,000+ fans attend the historic match on March 30th.
Bayern will be hoping for the same level of enthusiasm from fans when they take on PSG at the Allianz.
