Grenfell Athletic FC's new kit in partnership with Nike and Kitlocker is one of the most emotive releases you'll ever see in the beautiful game.
Each shirt features cuts of fabric donated from items of clothing that survived the Grenfell fire, including some garments worn by survivors on the night of their escape.
The new kits – released under a project titled ‘Fabric of the Community’ – sees each individual shirt designed to include a subtle perimeter area surrounding the club crest, reserved for a bespoke cut of fabric.
Among those to donate to the project is Nick Burton, whose wife was sadly the 72nd victim of the tragedy. He donated the shirt he wore on the night of the fire and has held onto ever since. Using this project as a moment to gain further closure inspired him to take part.
“This is one of the only connections that I have to my home,” Nick said. “I feel that it’s time to let go and now it will live on as part of the fabric of the community – the community that is everything to us.”
Non-local supporters of the club also donated to the campaign, including Hector Bellerin who donated a match-worn shirt from his time at Arsenal, and Louis Tomlinson who has offered up one of his treasured Doncaster Rovers shirts.
The innovative design will be worn by both the men’s and women’s teams during the 2024/25 season. Grenfell Athletic was founded to help the local community heal following the 2017 tragedy, and has amassed over 2,000 shirt sales since with proceeds going back to the community.
The 2024/25 jersey is available now via Kitlocker.
