Arsenal are reportedly considering expanding the Emirates Stadium by 20,000 seats, meaning its potential capacity would be 80,000.

According to news outlet Bloomberg, “preliminary discussions are underway” to expand the North London ground that currently holds almost 61,000 fans.

If Arsenal were to increase their capacity to 80,000 it would see the Emirates Stadium become the largest club ground in London – overtaking rivals Spurs and their 62,850-seater Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Gunners moved from Highbury to the Emirates back in 2006, but since then, other Premier League clubs have updated their grounds with some even turning them into multi-purpose venues.

Spurs’ ongoing partnership with the NFL saw their stadium become the first-purpose built American football ground outside the US, making it the home of NFL in England. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has also been one of the country's go-to music venues for some of the world's biggest musicians, with the likes of Travis Scott and Beyoncé dropping sellout shows in recent years.

It’s highly likely that any sort of motivation behind Arsenal's stadium expansion plans is to do with achieving higher matchday revenue targets, but perhaps the culture club are also conscious of further being left behind when it comes to providing fans with a richer, comprehensive entertainment experience.
